The Henry Street Settlement

In September of 2018, the Henry Street Settlement opened its doors to a new interactive exhibit at The House on Henry Street.  Norfast worked with Li-Saltzman Architects, PC to help prepare the exhibit space for their grand opening.  Design included mechanical and electrical engineering.
 
Norfast continues to work with the Henry Street Settlement on projects at their multiple structures throughout New York City.

Knockdown Center

The Knockdown Center has been in use for over 100 years, first as a glass factory for Gleason-Tiebout, and later as a door factory for Manhattan Door.  It currently serves as a multi-use facility featuring gallery and concert space for cultural events and exhibitions.
 
Norfast has assisted Knockdown with multiple projects, including structural and foundation work to remove a 50 foot bearing wall to create the concert space, design of a new air conditioning system, and structural repairs for historic masonry.

Kykuit - Rockerfeller Estate

Kykuit was built in 1913 and housed four generations of Rockefellers, beginning with John D. Rockefeller.  This miraculous estate has since been turned into a museum and has called upon Norfast for their assistance with preserving exterior structures.
 
In 2013, the Aphrodite trellis was damaged when a tree collapsed in a storm.  Norfast designed a new foundation and structure hidden in the original trellis profile. In 2015, Norfast designed repairs to the Adam and Eve trellises.  In 2106, Norfast designed repairs to the terrace over the breakfast rooms and the iconic Oceanus fountain.

US Post Office and Courthouse

Norfast provided engineering for the building's replacement terra cotta and provided structural analysis, engineering and shop drawings for dormer repairs, storage bulkheads, skylights, and a temporary rooftop structure. ​

Strand Theatre

Norfast provided design documents for terra cotta and brick repairs for the historic Strand Theatre in Brooklyn. This project included multiple repair techniques to maximize the limited budget. ​

The American Museum of Natural History

The NYC LPC designated the American Museum of Natural History as an individual landmark in 1967. It also lies within the Upper West Side/Central Park West Historic District. Norfast provided engineering services related to scaffolding design and a full height decorative scrim. Norfast surveyed and evaluated the lifeline connections used by in-house staff for maintenance at the interior entrance hall and exterior, and provided conditions documentation and concrete design for the south porte-cochere restoration. ​

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The NYC LPC designated the museum as an individual landmark in 1967. Norfast provided shoring design and shop drawings for the restoration of the concrete steps, including a radiant heat system for snow melt.

Stephen Sondheim Theatre

The NYC LPC designated this historic theatre, formerly known as the Henry Miller Theatre, as an individual landmark in 1987. The Roundabout Theatre Company hired Norfast to provide electrical service and distribution review for the building. Nicholson & Galloway, Inc. hired Norfast to provide engineering calculations and design the support structure for the new marquee.

Battery Maritime Building

Picture
The Battery Maritime Building, designated by the NYC LPC as an individual landmark in 1967, underwent a restoration that included the interior arched moldings at slips 5, 6 and 7.  Norfast was hired to perform a historical survey of the sheet metal arches and to design the structural connections for the installation of the replacement fiberglass panels.
