New York Life Building
The New York Life Building has been designated a New York City individual landmark since 2000. Norfast investigated and designed repairs for the building's facade. Repairs included spire repair, the 34th floor fenestration surrounds, the turrets for the building, as well as limestone repairs throughout the facade.
Norfast also provided engineering for the structural work associated with the new electrical and HVAC services throughout the building. We analyzed the existing structure and designed reinforcement for beam and girders to support the new loads. Norfast continues to provide structural engineering services for various building projects including a new elevator, roof closings and openings, as well as the lobby and interior renovation. |

The Roosevelt Hotel
The Roosevelt Hotel opened its doors in 1924 and was known as the "Grand Dame of Madison Avenue." The iconic hotel has been a long-time client of Norfast. Norfast completed multiple cycles of NYC's Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP) for the building. Our most recent project included facade repairs and roof replacement. These repairs included terra cotta roof tile replacement, brick and spandrel repairs, as well as terra cotta and limestone repairs. Roofs at the 12th, 16th and 20th floors were also replaced.

The Knox Building
Built in 1902, the former Knox Hat Building currently houses HSBC. John Hemenway Duncan designed the 10-story structure for Edward Knox, head of the world famous hat store. More recently, Platt Byard Dovell White Architects LLP was hired to design a complete restoration of the building. In 2008 the contractors, Nicholson & Galloway, Inc. hired Norfast to provide construction engineering for the installation of a new entrance canopy, window hardware, and roof railings.

AIA Center for Architecture
The AIA New York Chapter and the Foundation for Architecture needed new space for their expanding programs. Andrew Berman Architect, PLLC and Norfast won the competition, which sought an excellent design with attention to green building methods. The result is The Center for Architecture, a 12,000 square foot, 3-story multi-use facility, including offices, galleries, a lecture hall and a library. Norfast served as the structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer. The structural work involved removing several sections of the floor, installing two new egress stairs, new footings, slab on grade, and underpinning. The geothermal HVAC system provides 65 tons of air conditioning using two 1,250 foot deep standing column wells, a plate and frame heat exchanger and nine geothermal heat pumps. Norfast worked closely with Andrew Berman Architect, PLLC to design the exposed ductwork which coordinated with the architecture. Electrical work included upgraded service, power design for audio-visual equipment, extensive lighting, and dimming controls.

Hotel InterContinental
The Hotel InterContinental was getting a facelift when Norfast was brought in to design the drainage and power for a new canopy. Soon after Norfast was hired to perform a Local Law 11 survey. Norfast designed repairs to its limestone balconies, brick corners, parapets, lintels, and reconstruction of the water tower bulkhead. Norfast fast-tracked the design and filing so that the repairs were completed within 6 months of the LL 11 report filing and within the owner’s current budget cycle.
